Role Profile Lab Technician
Role & Responsibilities
To provide the highest quality glazing service to the store to achieve maximum sales and profitability through the delivery of customer service excellence
The role Principal accountabilities
Minimise lab costs by reducing wastage, remakes and ordering all products from the most appropriate 'approved' core suppliers
Be aware of controllable cost management within the lab
Ensure environmental and sustainability procedures are followed
Contribute to consistently excellent Product Quality Health Check scores
Achieve consistently excellent scores for instore product quality audits
Receive consistently positive feedback from customers
Support a one big team culture throughout the store
Meet and exceed all personal and team goals
Engage in Learning & Development for new product launches & initiatives
Be an ambassador for the Specsavers brand at all times
Level 1 (recommended training Laboratory technician induction)
Ensure customers spectacle needs are met effectively, on time whilst maintaining a high level product quality
Ensure front of store staff are informed if there is any problem or delay to their order
Maintain a professional focus; learning about basic visual defects in the eye and lens types and lens coatings; seek to improve your own skills and product knowledge
Understand and analyse prescriptions accurately
Ensure the behaviours in the lab are in line with Specsavers Vision and Values
Embrace a culture of Customer First in the lab
Comply with Health and Safety guidelines effectively, with particular focus on Lab equipment, cleanliness and safe practices
You will be fully accredited to laboratory technician induction (formerly level 1)
Demonstrate technical competency; use the focimeter and/or auto lensmeter accurately for single vision lenses, ensure decentration and blank sizing for single vision lenses is correct, glaze and tint single vision lenses effectively, assemble the frames correctly
Conduct pre-processing checks for single vision lenses, monitor the progress of orders and sign-off completed orders
Conduct housekeeping, ensuring the appearance of the laboratory is always clean, professional, and organised
Level 2 (recommended training Laboratory technician)
All aspects of laboratory technician level 1, plus:
Ensure customers with more complex prescriptions needs are met including multifocal glazing
Order and monitor the progress of lens orders with core suppliers
Carry out regular quality audits
Support apprentices throughout the store with their apprenticeship learning (if applicable)
You will be fully accredited to laboratory technician (formerly level 2)
Other duties include:
- Book and change customer appointments on the in-store computer systems
- Prescreen patients prior to sight test
