Ready for a change of direction in your optometry career?
What role did you dream of when you went to university to study optometry?
Most optometrists would say it was a clinical role, detecting eye disease and helping people to see better.
This is what being a SpaMedica Hospital Optometrist is all about – there is generally no sight test chart in your room, your best friends are your slit lamp and the team of nurses and technician around you who supply all the useful information to aid your examination and consultation with the patient.
It is not about KPIs, conversion or sales targets – our focus is completely on the patients. And you don’t need prior experience in the Hospital Eye Service to join us – full training is given – and even when we think you are good to fly solo, you are never alone: we have senior Optometrists and prescribers on hand to always support your clinical decision-making skills.
We are a professional team with a strong culture of supporting each other so that we can do our very best for our patients.
Most of our 140 hospital optometrists support the cataract service, where they enjoy working across a variety of clinics in this speciality – pre-op, post-op and carrying out YAG laser treatments plus occasional working at home doing a shift to support patients by phone. Many also combine this with working in Medical Retina and Glaucoma services, or working within our private service, Freedom Vision.
If you are someone who needs variety where two days are never the same, your favourite module at university was ocular disease and you would like to learn new skills like YAG laser and prescribing, then you will thrive in this role.
We will offer the successful candidate Independent Prescribing training qualification, fully paid to help elevate your career with SpaMedica.
Here at SpaMedica, our focus is on patient care, safety and satisfaction. As the UK’s largest provider of NHS cataract surgery, we’re experts at what we do, and that’s evidenced in the five-star feedback we receive from our patients.
Joining us as an Optometrist, you will support our visions and values of safety, integrity, kindness and transparency are embedded in our day to day care to ensure we deliver the best service possible.
If you can put our patients at the heart of everything you do, then apply today as we really want to hear from you!
In addition to a range of employee benefits including company and personal performance bonus, we will also offer you when you join a £10,000 welcome bonus, subject to terms and conditions.
All SpaMedica hospitals inspected by the CQC have been rated as ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding,’ and we have recently been awarded Investors In People Platinum Accreditation.
