Optometrists – Gloucester

Newmedica are one of the leading providers of ophthalmology to NHS England, providing outpatients appointments, diagnostic testing and eye surgery.  We aim to change lives through better sight and eye health.

We care for more than 225,000 NHS and private patients a year in over 26 locations and we’re growing.

We’re looking for clinically minded Optometrists to join our brilliant team in Gloucester.

A range of options are available including full/part employed roles and locum opportunities.

Our Optometrists are critical to the delivery of our service supporting glaucoma, general and post op ophthalmology clinics.  With training and appropriate qualifications our Optometrists work independently seeing new glaucoma pre op patients and using YAG lasers for capsulotomy.

The Optometrist role at Newmedica offers a modern hospital-based environment with opportunities for clinical learning. Our patients have a variety of interesting clinical cases which offer more complex decision-making scenarios. This is therefore a great role for a qualified Optometrist looking for personal development and to expand their professional horizons.

Newmedica services are purpose built to the highest specifications with bright, spacious and modern reception and waiting areas. They are fitted out specifically for ophthalmology, complying with HTMs and meeting CQC standards with high quality clinical areas including an operating theatre, treatment room, recovery areas and consulting rooms with leading diagnostic and ophthalmic equipment.

We offer full training, flexible working patterns and the opportunity to develop your clinical skills/experience and work with our Consultant Ophthalmologist Partners.

See what one of our Optometrists has to say about us:

My career with Newmedica started in 2017 when finished maternity leave. I’d realised I wanted to pursue a career that was more clinically orientated which I felt wasn’t achievable within community optometry.

I applied for a role as an Optometrist with Newmedica. After meeting the clinic partners, it was clear this was a place where I could learn a huge amount and progress my career.

I initially specialised in glaucoma but when Covid-19 hit we had to adapt our ways of working and I got the opportunity to expand my skills by training in YAG Capsulotomy.

Newmedica has helped me develop my leadership skills while training Ophthalmic Technicians and Optometrists, all to help make the patient’s journey as smooth as possible. I couldn’t be prouder to be part of such an amazing team.

Christelle, Lead Optometrist, Gloucester.
