In operation for over 40 years, our brands include: Duncan and Todd, 2020, Douglas Dickie, JM Macdonald, James Hughes, Browns, IC Andrew, and Smart Employee Eyecare. Due to expansion, we have an exciting new opportunity for a Regional Development Manager to join our busy team, on a full time basis.

 

Main Purpose of Role

Through visible leadership, you are responsible for driving excellent customer service and sales growth within the retail division. Acting as an ambassador by collaboratively working with branches and head office to ensure successful delivery and execution of the strategies as agreed with the Retail Director.

This is a fast-paced collaborative role which will require a consistent endeavour towards being and achieving the best from your teams.

 

Core Responsibilities

  • Ultimate responsibility for sales growth and development in the retail division and for delivering revenue and profit targets for the region, as per the business plan
  • Accountable for the delivery of exceptional customer service at every level across the region
  • Engagement of all members of the practice teams to ensure sustainable delivery of all KPIs
  • Effective and efficient prioritisation of tasks, ensuring delivery is seamless
  • Investigating and identifying areas for growth within the retail division.
  • Communication – work collaboratively with all functions and teams across the business, with open, honest and consistent communication

Strategy and planning

  • Planning – Establish a clear strategy for your region to deliver daily, weekly and monthly agreed targets
  • Analysis – Carry out SWOT analysis on any branch that is underperforming on KPIs. Creating strategic planning from the analysis gained. Clearly identifying the needs of the branch and involving relevant head office departments as required.
  • Project Management and Delivery – Engage all stakeholders in the business to ensure the successful delivery of strategic plans, continuously monitoring success and mitigating risks as necessary
  • Resources – responsibility for the overall staffing costs in region and signing off of rota prior to being published by resources.
  • Clinical Governance – ensure that Professional Standards and legislation are adhered to
  • Competitor analysis - maintaining awareness of competitor promotions, activity and potential business threats
  • Utilise other departments such as Marketing, Finance, Corporate, Manufacturing and Purchasing Manager to identify areas for growth.

Resource Management

  • Drive change in a positive, effective and efficient manner, building rapport across departments to ensure seamless management.
  • Work collaboratively with the Retail Director and Finance Department to set and phase budgets for your branches.
  • Liaise with the Retail Director to review and refresh objectives and KPIs and reinforce and deliver these to branches.
  • Hold monthly P&L reviews with Practice Managers promptly after being published
  • Drive retail sales growth by supporting the Practice Managers to ensure that set targets are met.
  • Develop successful strategies and initiatives to drive better communication and ultimately improve team motivation at all levels.
  • Work with other departments to ensure consistency of processes across the branches and address any areas identified with the Practice Manager.
  • Manage and maintain a robust succession plan for all practices within your region and supporting the wider retail business.
  • Fully support any new acquisitions into your region and work collaboratively with other functions to ensure seamless and successful integrations.
  • Ensure that re-fits are planned and utilised as a level to drive footfall, enhance customer flow, revenue and profit within your branches by ensuring that the right team is in place, and that the relevant training, planning and people development is part of the re-fit process
  • Identify and propose opportunities for Capex investment within your region that will drive revenue and profit.

People Management

  • A visible leader within the business, you will spend 4 out of 5 days per week collaborating with your Practice Managers to develop and grow their business performance and teams
  • Keeping employee engagement as a key priority, you will actively find opportunities to motivate and develop Practice Managers in your region and ensure they too are engaged with their teams
  • Continuously review the performance of Practice Managers, ensuring that every Practice Manager has a Personal Development Plan in place that is reviewed and discussed to move forward
  • Manage all formal and informal disciplinary and grievance issues arising at Practice Manager level, and give appropriate guidance on branch level where required, ensuring proper procedure is followed
  • Proactively promote Company policies, procedures, initiatives and disseminate important information relating to Company performance, regional issues etc. to Practice Managers through strong and regular communication
  • Hold regular structured Practice Manager meetings, using the time to cascade relevant information, share and discuss best practice, provide training and build and develop your team
  • Support Practice Managers with advice on complex issues and ensure a consistent approach is taken with regard to people management across the practices.
  • Perform the role of mentor to Practice Managers, supporting and guiding as necessary to ensure they are confident in undertaking their managerial duties and have the necessary information, skills and abilities to do so effectively
  • Recognise and celebrate great performance and address areas of underperformance in a timely manner.

Relationship Management

  • Empower and motivate direct reports and fellow stakeholders towards the achievement of Company objectives.
  • Lead and manage excellent Company-wide relationships, troubleshooting and dealing with any issues or problems which may arise, and role modelling our values and behaviours
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders, proactively promoting the Company at all times

Other

  • Act as an ambassador for the Company at all times, accountable for leading by example to promote exceptional customer service to external and internal customers and partners
  • Any other duties as required to support the Retail Sales Director and management team.

Geographical scope of role

This job is a mobile position which involves regular and sometimes extensive travel across the full landscape of the business.

Expectation of reasonable evening and weekend work, and to travel at short notice and as business needs require to any site within the company. This may include overnight stays as required.
