OPTOMETRISTS (Caribbean - Jamaica)

The Company and Location:
COURTS Optical, a well-established and reputable retailer in the Caribbean, has the fastest growing chain of optical stores with 11 across several parishes in Jamaica. The COURTS Optical team is hiring up to five (5) qualified Optometrists (trained in the USA, Canada or the UK) on international contracts to be located in Jamaica at this time.
The Caribbean Location – Jamaica:

Rich in music, diversity and culture, this island offers active entertainment calendars including carnival and music festivals around the year.
Optometrists joining our COURTS Optical team will have a great boost to their careers being responsible for the performance of their branches and for upholding clinical standards while providing optometry services. Our Optometrists are required to:
- Conduct regular sight-testing appointments, prescribe glasses/contact lenses or other treatment options and vision therapy and make referrals to Ophthalmologists where necessary. Conduct contact lens assessments and follow-up checks. Educate and counsel patients on hygiene, lighting, safety, good habits and all other elements of care. Ensure that service standards exceed expectations and that staff are well-trained at all times. Guide Branch Dispensers to build capability and performance and handle standard service and patient administration, including using the Microsoft office suite.
Our offices will include some of the following features and equipment:
- Well-equipped practice, with friendly and experienced support staff, including optical advisors and experienced management teams 11 consulting rooms currently operating – one in each location Non-Contact Tonometer Slit-lamp in test room
Qualifications and Experience:
The role require a BSc. in Optometry from an accredited school (USA, Canada or the UK), and GOC registration, with at least one (1) year’s experience in optical retail. Success in this role will require a passion for serving others, being demonstrably collaborative, resilient, pragmatic and flexible and having good positive energy overall. COURTS Optical will support the candidates’ registration with the Jamaica Optometrist Association as well as work permit and relocation support.
Working Days and Hours:
Our Optometrists work 5 days a week, Monday to Saturday (with a scheduled day off) and stores are open 9:00am to 5:00pm. Optometrists are assigned to a region with 2 – 3 different locations and work on a rotation schedule with reasonable commutes.
Salary, Vacation, Travel and Relocation Package:
The package for these career opportunities is set at US$90k p.a. and is offered on an unaccompanied basis. With a keen attention to work life balance, this role offers 15 days’ paid vacation each year (plus 10 public holidays) and flights at the start and end of the assignment, however, salary can also be negotiated to off-set candidate preferences for more paid holidays and travel subsidies.
COURTS Optical offers great support to selected candidates to ensure a smooth transition to Jamaica – this includes:
- 3 months’ paid housing
- 3 months’ provision of a fully maintained car
- Advice and coaching by certified Transition Coaches
