The Low Vision Service at RNIB is an integrated low vision optometric and rehabilitation CCG commissioned service. Set in a purpose built clinic within the headquarters of the largest sight loss charity in the UK, we are able to provide our services to the highest level ensuring a truly holistic approach to low vision. Established in 2003, the service has led the way in community based low vision provision. It is also one of only a handful of services that provide low vision domiciliary care. We have a team of practitioners who are experts in low vision and learning disabilities as well as public health. We provide training at undergraduate and post graduate level and have presented research at many major conferences. If you have an interest in patient care and low vision, and would like to work in a team that shares that passion then please take a look at the job description below.

We are recruiting an optical assistant who will be an integral part of our team. The role is varied and always patient centred. You will be providing administrative expertise as well as practical support including some delegated clinical tests. You will be supporting clinicians in clinic and on home visits. You will ensure the smooth running of the diary and liaise between key stakeholders of this service such as between RNIB and our rehabilitation officer colleagues. You will be involved in ensuring the best possible patient experience.

You will have an understanding of the importance of patient centred care and a passion for improving the quality of life for people living with sight loss. You will have exceptional communication skills and experience working as an optical assistant in a busy clinic. You will also have experience as an administrator and an ability to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. You will understand the importance of teamworking to ensure the smooth running of a commissioned service.

In exchange we offer a competitive salary, a stimulating and supportive working environment and a benefits package including:

  • 26 days holiday per year (plus bank holidays), which increase with service
  • Excellent pension schemes
