Optometry Jobs at Specsavers

Optometrist, Chester le Street, Durham.

Specsavers in Chester-le-Street are looking to expand their experienced clinical team with an optometrist who matches their values. The clinical team across their Chester-le-Street and Stanley teams currently include 3 optometrists, a contact lens optician, a trainee contact lens optician and a dispensing optician. There is an abundance of knowledge in the store and support to make sure you can focus on what you do best. A lot of the team are home grown, which creates a friendly and experience heavy team, with a passion for progression encouraged by the directors.

Based in the historic market town of Chester-le-Street, it is an easy commute from Newcastle, whilst also being only 30 minutes from the coast or the countryside. There is plenty to keep you busy during or out of working hours. This is something the directors understand and is why flexibility is key to making their stores work. Ross and Jill know that life can get in the way of working conventional hours, or you may have a passionate hobby that you wish to spend more time working on, which is why they are open to discussion on working pattern that suits your lifestyle best.

What’s on Offer?

  • A competitive basic salary of up to £65,000 per annum (Dependent on experience, which we can discuss)
  • A welcome bonus of up to £10,000
  • Full-Time or Part-Time working available, with flexibility
  • Regular team events spread throughout the year
  • An individual personal development plan to support your progression path of choice
  • Pension Contribution
  • Support CET
  • Access to the latest technology such as phoropter heads and OCT
  • The chance for cross store working, or to be based in either Chester-le-Street or Durham

Meet the Directors:
Jill Thompson has been the opthalmic director since the store opened 16 years ago. Jill moved from Nottingham as a locum to enjoy the benefits of living only 30 minutes from coast, city or countryside, and to become the director of her own store.

Ross McLachlan started his optical career as a Saturday lad during his time at uni. Having heard about the support offered to become a director, he worked his way toward his goal through management progression buying into the store 14 years ago. Ross is now the lead director for Specsavers in the region, working hard with the group in the area alongside directing 2 stores.

Specsavers in Chester-le-Street has recently had a store refit. We now have 4 fully equipped test rooms, all fitted with latest clinical technology – meaning you have everything you need to perform sight tests to the highest possible standards.

We are passionate about the clinical development of our team, and as our new Optometrist, we would to support you with extra courses and specialisms that interest you.

What we’re looking for

Alongside being a qualified and GOC registered Optometrist, the right person for this position will be confident, possess a strong worth ethic and a willingness to succeed. You’ll be passionate about your job and enjoy a fast-paced environment. We are looking for an Optometrist who will go the extra mile for our customers and someone who encourages their colleagues to do the same. In summary, we’re looking for a high calibre resident Optometrist to join us and assist in driving this excellent practice forward.
