Role Overview / Job Purpose

The optometrist delivers an eye examination and contact lens service to a consistently high clinical and customer-service standard, which drives sales, profit and customer loyalty.

Qualifications and experience for all Optometrists

• To be registered as an optometrist with the GOC (General optical council, UK)
• Undergraduate degree (B.S.C) in Optometry
• To have completed the pre-registration training period with the College of Optometrists, UK.


About the Role

Newly Qualified Optometrist

• To be highly professional in the test room, and work with the store team to deliver the highest clinical and customer service standards, meeting both patient needs and achieving business objectives
Senior Optometrist

• To take responsibility for professional training and supervision, and professional protocols relating to professional services. 
• To assist the Principal Optometrist.
Principal Optometrist

• To provide effective leadership and development to the optometry team.


Your Objectives

Newly Qualified Optometrist

• Carry out eye examinations in accordance with Company procedures and NHS regulations
• Pre-testing and field screening is accurately, safely and efficiently completed
• Ensure that any referral letters are written and dispatched promptly
• Ensure that all customers have a clear understanding of dispensing options for their prescription. Advise customers on appropriate eyecare options, including suitability for contact lenses and current promotions
• Ensure that each customer receives a consistent quality 3-way handover
• Adopt a flexible approach to seeing ‘walk in’ patients 
• Maintain patient records to the professional standards required by the company
• Maintain cleanliness of consulting room and contact lens areas
• Carry out contact lens fitting and aftercare as required
• Provide insertion / removal instruction to patients as required
• Attend and participate in team meetings. 
• Maintain up-to-date clinical and professional knowledge.
• Perform any other duties as may from time to time be reasonably requested by the senior optometrist
Senior Optometrist

• Assist the directors (or Principal Optometrist) with the supervision of professional and support staff as required
• Assist with coordinating the training of professional and support staff, and carry out this training where appropriate
• Supervise a pre-reg optometrist and or trainee DO/CLO when one is employed by the Company (if accepted by the relevant professional body as a supervisor)
• Work with the directors (or Principal Optometrist) to establish and monitor clinical and store protocols
• Monitor the performance and productivity of professional staff
Principal Optometrist

• Assist the directors with the professional and support staff coaching as required
• Complete professional staff appraisal as requested by the practice directors
• Assist the directors in reviewing and setting bonus targets
• Plan and manage rotas and holiday cover with the clinic manager
• Ensure optometrists maintain the consulting rooms to retail standards
• Grow the business through developing new opportunities
• Meet and exceed all personal and team goals
• Be an ambassador for the Specsavers brand at all times
