A very exciting opportunity has become available for a customer focused, qualified Dispensing Optician on a part time, permanent basis at the University of Portsmouth Eye Clinic.

The University of Portsmouth Eye Clinic has been developed to provide community eye and vision care services to members of the public, whilst facilitating the training needs of the Masters of Optometry students within the School of Health Sciences and Social Work under the General Optical Council competencies.

This role is a great opportunity for an experienced qualified Dispensing Optician to work within a Higher Education Institution. The successful candidate will help with the day to day running of clinics as well as supervising and training students in their pre-registration training for their Optometry course.  Clinical administration, maintenance of the patient management system and pre-screening is also a part of the role to ensure the smooth running of clinics. The successful candidate will also be required from time to time to deputise for the Clinic Manager in their absence.

The successful applicant will need to be a Qualified Dispensing Optician with a personable demeanour and strong personal work ethic. A customer focused approach to work is vital as well as the ability to build a strong rapport with customers and colleagues alike.

Although this vacancy is being advertising on a 0.8 fte basis, the department would be happy to accept applications from candidates wishing to work 0.6 fte. Please state in your reasons for applying which you would like to apply for.
