Senior Lecturer in Optometry
Employment type: Fixed-term contract (to 30/06/2019)
Employment basis: Full-time
Interview date: 08 August 2018
The University of Portsmouth has a history of teaching in clinical subjects and is expanding academic development in new and emerging health fields. We are committed to developing applied, clinically relevant courses, supported by state-of-the-art simulation resources.
We are seeking applications from an optometrist with an interest in teaching optometry and engaging in scholarly activity in higher education. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to curriculum design, course development, liaison with potential placements and professional statutory and regulatory bodies. The successful applicant will undertake lecturing, delivering practical classes and supervision of real patient episodes. An appropriate Honours degree (or equivalent qualifications and clinical experience) is required.
Applicants should have a sound background in optometric practice and should be registered as an optometrist with the General Optical Council. Experience in curriculum design, teaching and assessment in the Higher Education sector although desirable is not essential and continued engagement with practice is encouraged.
Appointments will be made on the Senior Lecturer Scale according to qualifications and experience.
